The experiences deliver the ‘lessons from the Atlantic’ learned from Ian’s part in an attempt to set a new world record for rowing unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean.

The trips are aboard our ocean rowing boat based on inland lakes and rivers. Participants will get a great insight into what it is like to be on board an ocean rowing boat and will recognise and develop transferable skills that can be taken back into their ‘normal’ lives both at work and at home.

No rowing experience is required – you will receive full coaching to go from a complete novice to a competent rower in the time you are on the water.

Additional challenges can be built into your event from bushcraft to orienteering and you have options on camping or hotels if your will require overnight accommodation.

The video below will give you an insight into ocean rowing and the similarities from an Experience:

Fun & challenge first and foremost.

Being relentless – the time and the place to just keep going

Communication – having difficult conversations

Team development – different personalities backing the team

Personal responsibility – look after me, to look after you

Leadership insights – who is in charge and when

Control the controllables – focus

Participants develop previously unseen marginal gains that will make their ‘boat’ go faster.

Feedback excerpt: Ian was fantastic – his sense of humour ticked all the boxes and his direction and advice kept us focused.

Rutland Water:

Single or multiple day experiences for participants from non rowers to experienced and businesses to schools. Rutland is sufficiently large to give a good sense of scale – how small the boat feels – and a variety of weather conditions; one day can be sunny and idyllic, the next blowing and wet – either way you will have an intense experience out on open water.

We have a partnership with Barnsdale Lodge Hotel for participants wanting to stay overnight before or after and Experience Day. Please take a moment to view the hotel via their website here.

Old father Thames is a brilliant place to have an Atlantic Experience! Even on the river you will get a great insight into life on board the boat and we run trips for part of the river, all of it, day sessions and rowing through the night too. The regular locks make excellent break points either for shift changes or crew personnel changes.

Overnight accommodation can be as basic as sleeping on the boat, a bivvy bag on the bank or a 5 star hotel!

Lake District:

ullswaterA variety of Lake District Experiences on offer to include Windemere, the largest lake in the UK, Derwent Water and Ullswater, the latter more remote but all stunning on their beauty and not least their scale.

Lake District options require overnight accommodation pre-rowing to give a full day on the water and can be one or more days on one or more lakes.

As above, accommodation can be selected from hotel to boat to bivvy bag or a combination – how basic would you like your experience to be?

Coast to Coast:

England: Participants will experience a succession of historical sights across the country with approximatly 180 mile of rowing interspersed with one of the most extensive lock systems in the country. You will see history before you from the Magna Carta to the London Eye and everything in between.

Multiple Day event running a challenge to row across the width of England from the sea at Avonmouth near Bristol in the west via rivers and canals to the Thames Estuary in the east.

Scotland: Rowing the Great Glenn – from Glencoe in the west to Inverness in the east and taking on the unkown mysteries of Loch Ness in between. Rivers and canals to cross some of the most spectacular scenery the British Isles have to offer.

With both of these options accommodation will follow suit from 5 star to bivvy bag – the choice is there for the participants.

Feedback excerpt: The trip down The Thames was great fun, lots of banter, hard work, good exercise but most of all I have learnt a lot to take back to normal life both at work and personal.

Client video from an Atlantic Experience day with an ocean rowing crew:

Feedback excerpt: Ian talked us through the beginner mechanics of how the boat works and how best to move it through the water.  He analysed our technique whilst entertaining us with remarkable stories of his journey across the Atlantic.
