Go your own way…28 days at sea

The Atlantic Experience talk is just a tiny snippet of time from Ian’s life and yet a hugely significant one, one that facilitated him going his own way and finding it in himself to leave the harbour and set out to turn his story from the ocean into a successful business as a speaker and coach.

The point of delivering the story to audiences is to prompt them to remember their own story, their own significant moments and to remind us all of the extra-ordinary things we have handled or delivered and will continue to do so in ‘normal’ life.

The ocean story is something different to each person who hears it, an adventure story, one of conflict and harmony, excitement and boredom, teamwork and division. It is a story of being relentless and giving up, one of truth and fiction, success and failure. It is a love story too, a story of finding your own voice – a book might well come from it all eventually!

The video below is a short reminder of just what we can achieve and just what we can handle in 28 days, the extra-ordinary that us ordinary people deliver: (give it a moment for the sound to come in!)

Capsize!

An insight into our boat capsizing at sea, 3 guys on deck flung straight into the sea and under the water, three others had to fight their way out of the cabins…..

BBC interview – the morning after capsize: Lisa Rowe

The morning after we capsized Lisa already knew we were safe on board the Nord Taipei bulk carrier that had rescued us from the ocean. She had had a terrifying wait for news from the announcement by Heart FM radio that we had gone in until she was notified by the shore team that we were all safe. Overnight she had not slept, fraught with worry, her worse fears realised that the trip had all gone wrong.

The following morning she was in a mess; no sleep, agonized, trying to be brave for our young daughter Lily – and then the BBC knocked on the door! In the space of a few minutes Lisa got dressed and sorted and gave the following interview, that’s courage!
